Michelle Serving in St. James Town
After a whole year of being away, I am excited to be back! For those who do not know, I was away on my maternity leave this past year, spending my days with a delightful little human...
“I don’t want to play anymore!” complained one of our six year-old students. He was falling behind in a game of Snakes and Ladders and was feeling quite frustrated...
Sonshine Day Camp has begun! My love for TCM began at Sonshine Day Camp 11 years ago when I was an intern. Since then, camp continues to be a highlight of my year.
At this time of the year we usually wrap up our school-year programs to gear-up for the summer. We finish the school year with various parties for the volunteers and the families we serve, including a large community potluck.
Today when we moved on to games at KIC, one of our students still needed a little more time to work on her homework. I walked over to see if I could help. She was struggling with her multiplication worksheet.
This past week we had the privilege of launching a new EPIC program in St. James Town. In order to get to know the children a bit better, we invited them to make toilet paper roll figures based on the theme "when I grow up". As you can see, their creations were adorable!
Today at KIC our kids worshiped God through art and song. My colleague, Elita, had one boy read Psalm 148 aloud. The children listened as the Psalm listed all of the things in creation that praise God. The children giggled when they heard that even "sea monsters" praise God.
I recently interviewed Sarah* and Melissa* to find out what they thought about KIC, our after school program. Sarah is 7 years old and Melissa is 8. These were their own words:
Today I returned to KIC after being away for a couple weeks. I just got married, and kids greeted me with lots of love and joy.
Today at KIC, we made these.
Adam and Eve, before and after God made them clothes :)
No need to hide kids. God loves you!
michelle's bio
Michelle grew up in St. James Town and has experienced, rst-hand, the incredible work of Toronto City Mission in her community. She has been involved with TCM since 2005, first as a summer intern, then as volunteer and ministry partner. It was through TCM's investment in her life that she discovered God’s calling to full-time ministry in St. James Town.
Michelle hopes that more families are transformed by the gospel.
As we prepare to enter a new year, these women have inspired me to take stock of all my blessings and to offer those things back to God in worship. I don’t want to just sing songs on a Sunday, volunteer at my local church, or write a cheque for a good cause. I want to use….
