When I grow up

By: Michelle Lau - Outreach Worker in St. James Town

This past week we had the privilege of launching a new EPIC program in St. James Town. In order to get to know the children a bit better, we invited them to make toilet paper roll figures based on the theme "when I grow up". As you can see, their creations were adorable!

One girl wants to be a cashier because she will get to "manage lots of money". Another little boy wants to be a police officer. The most surprising response was from a boy in grade 5. He said: "I want to be a religious scholar." I have never heard that one before!

In our EPIC program, it is sometimes a struggle to get children to do their homework. Some of them are discouraged and lack confidence. Others are frustrated and lack motivation. Our prayer and hope is that we can be a source of encouragement to these children. We want them to look beyond their math homework and discover their God-given gifts and talents. We want them to see who they are in God's eyes: his beloved children. As that truth transforms their lives, we believe that these children will transform the world around them. They will bring hope home today, and they will transform society tomorrow.
