Because of God

Hey, I’m Leon, a one year intern from Germany. I came to TCM from the Liebenzell Mission and I’ve been working mostly in Flemingdon Park walking alongside kids and youth. There’s something I’ve experienced there that I’d like to share with you all.

A couple of months ago, we brought bad news to the kids in Flemingdon Park. We told them that there would be no Sonshine day camp this summer. The kids were really sad about this and some of them even got angry.

Last week however, we went back to the kids with good news–that we would in fact be able to run summer camp in Flemingdon Park. Their reactions of excitement and happiness brought so much joy to my heart!

Later that day, as we were cleaning up after the program, I noticed a drawing on a whiteboard left behind by one of the kids.

A note left behind by one of the kids after we announced that we’d be having camp in Flemingdon Park.

“We have summer camp! Because of God!”

My first reaction was more like: “hey that’s funny!”. But when I got home that evening I started to realize what this really meant.

It meant that the gospel seeds we sowed were starting to grow! Every day we are engaging these kids with the Bible and stories about God.

Sometimes, only one kid is listening, or they all might be listening, or none of them may be paying attention. Whiles these moments can be frustrating, I trusted that God was working on the kids in ways that I couldn’t see.

And what the kid wrote is true!
We got this opportunity of doing camp, just because of God!
Thanks be to him!
