Looking Back to Look Forward

Gift of Christmas celebration

January is a very special month for me as I reflect on how God has been working in my life in the past few years.  January, 4, 2015 was the day I chose for my baptism and one year and one day later was the first day I started work at Toronto City Mission.  Although nothing specific happened January 6, 2017, it is clear that this year will be another year of growth and change as I learn to navigate living out my faith journey.

As I look back I can see that God has lead me to come alongside these children and families in Flemingdon Park.  Over the past few years TCM planted roots in this community, and in this year that I have been in ministry here I have seen so much growth and provision.

This year was the first year that we opened up our Gift of Christmas celebration beyond the kids and to the larger community.  Thanks to our community partners we were able to book the gym at a local school and host the Christmas meal.  Children, families, and church partners were all invited to share in a meal and hear about the meaning of Christmas. Just a few short years ago this community of families, friends, and partners did not exist.  This year we saw over 70 people walk though our doors to celebrate Christmas with us.  As some heard the story of Christmas for the first time, I stand amazed at how God has chosen to reach His people through this ministry.  I look forward to seeing what 2017 has in store for the Flemingdon Park community, Toronto City Mission, and myself.
